British television presenter Julia Bradbury has recently endorsed the humble walking holiday as a great way for viewers of her BBC programme to keep in shape, a measure that could well boost the demand for these types of holidays in the near future.

The public personality made this endorsement ahead of the Peak District Walking Festival, which will take place in that scenic region of England between the end of April and the beginning of May of this year. Bradbury, who aside from her duties as a broadcaster is also the president of both the Peak District Camping and Caravanning Club and the Friends of the Peak District association, has further pledged her support to help visitors to the region become acquainted with its wide array of stunning and specially protected landscapes.

For most visitors to the area during the period detailed above, this acquaintance process is most likely to take place across any of the myriad events already booked for this year’s Peak District Walking Festival. Highlights include a number of guided walks - focusing on themes as diverse as aircraft wrecks, industry or wildlife - as well as a two-day Dark Peak walking holiday, a guided tour around a private estate, and a number of wildlife and photography walks. Most of these events have the added bonus of being completely free (although not all of them), allowing visitors to explore and discover this beautiful region of Derbyshire without charge.

Aside from the walks themselves, visitors to this festival – which marks the start of a number of activities to run in the area across the spring and autumn of 2014 – will also have the opportunity to try a number of outdoor activities, such as rock climbing, rock scrambling, trail, fell running and abseiling. These challenges are likely to entice those more given to adrenaline rushes, and constitute a perfect complement to any rambler’s walking holidays in the Peak District.

Bookings and full programmes for the Peak District Walking Festival are available from the website of the area’s official tourist board, as well as from every tourist and visitor centre around the area.
