Pakistani lawyer died trying to defend his client who is accused of blasphemy – says ebinjury.com

Every country has their own law that protects a principle, a person or the whole state in general. There are countries that held their religion with utmost importance that any violation against it will certainly lead one to the end of his life. Pakistan, for one, has created a law that prohibits anyone from insulting or giving unfavourable remarks towards Islam or the prophet Mohammed. Anyone who is found guilty will have to face the consequences of their action that is to face death penalty. The crime of blasphemy is a very unforgivable offense for them.

The law

The law is focused on giving the appropriate sentence to anyone caught giving out undesirable comment or claim against their religion. They held their prophet Mohammed high that is why any negative comment will outrage the people and the government. Although law always go through a due process but in Pakistan, lawyers are afraid to defend a person who is accused of blasphemy because presenting the evidences alone is already considered a violation. That is why; many accused are directly put to jail without getting the trial to court.

The fearless lawyer

Although there are many lawyers to turn to and ask for assistance but when you are committing blasphemy finding one will be so impossible because they are not making themselves available due to the fact that defending the accused would mean fighting against the government and would mean that you are in favour of what your client is doing. It will further say that you believe on your client’s claim. However it is amazing how the Pakistani lawyer Rashid Rehman face all these things with courage and unmindful about what it can bring to his life. He is willing to stand in front of the court and defend his client Junaid Hafeez who is a university lecturer when no one else does. Even if it can be life-threatening to Rehman, he did not mind about it. He rejects all the threats placed in front him and bravely get on with his goal that is to acquit his client.

Unfortunately, on a Wednesday morning, he was shot five times at his office by two gunmen identifying themselves as potential clients. The news easily break out through the pamphlets distributed saying he has faced his rightful end in trying to defend somebody who disrespects their god and it garnered varying response and it devastated the chairwoman of HRCP, the independent human resource commission where he was working for.
