Excitement Builds in Run Up to Italian Truffle Season

16, October 2014: Travellers with a passion for Italy are gearing up for the annual truffle season, which begins late October. A schedule of fairs and festivals will be held across the Italian regions of Piedmont, Tuscany and Umbria at this very special time of the year, and top accommodation companies, like Cottages to Castles, are gearing up for the anticipated influx of bookings to coincide with the themed celebrations.

Visitors to the region will have the opportunity to sample a host of Italian delicacies featuring the delicious white truffle.

Market traders in Piedmont, for instance, will be vying for the attention of international truffle enthusiasts at the market of Alba, during late October and early November. Local chefs will give demonstrations showing how to create the most tantalising speciality dishes and there is even the opportunity to accompany the truffle hunting dogs during guided walks through the forests of Piedmont. Attendees can also watch the fun of donkey races and listen to traditional Italian folk music.

A variety of local restaurants, including the Relais Villa d'Amelia and Relais San Maurizio Piedmont, will offer substantial discounts on truffle based meals during the month long festival. An expert consultant from specialist Italian accommodation company Cottages to Castles says visitors to the region should also consider attending the traditional San Miniato truffle fair in Western Tuscany and learn something about the history of truffle production at the museum of San Giovanni d'Asso in Southern Tuscany.

High-profile celebrity Oprah Winfrey has done her bit to boost the popularity of the Italian festivities this year by declaring she's planning on hunting for truffles with the pigs and dogs! The famous television presenter informed her fans a few years ago that an Italian truffle tour was on her "bucket list' of experiences. Winfrey said, "Every summer I’ve planned this and never did it. On the way to South Africa this time, I’m stopping in Italy and I’m going on a truffle hunt. That has been on my list for a long time. This year, finally, I’m going to do that!"

Anyone keen to share the experience of truffle hunting in Central Italy is encouraged to book early as it always proves to be a busy time for specialist Italian companies like Cottages to Castles. It's often possible to take of advantage of attractive last minute deals on accommodation in many of the popular Italian regions.
