30, December 2014: Travellers to Jamaica may find the process of passing through immigration upon arrival a little bit easier now that ten new automated kiosks have been installed at Donald Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.

Fast and Convenient

The 10 new kiosks follow the arrival of five other kiosks recently installed in Norman Manley International Airport. This means that these convenient kiosks are now present in the two largest international airports in the country, which is great news for international visitors to Jamaica.

Essential Hotel Collection, a top operator providing luxury hotel accommodation across the Caribbean, including Jamaica, welcomes the news, saying it will speed up the processing time for passengers arriving from overseas.

The kiosks are part of a US $2 million project being funded by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF). They use the advanced passenger information system (APIS), and feature biometric checks to quickly and securely check the details of people arriving at the airport, including checking face biometrics. The details are then verified, and the passengers can answer questions directly in the kiosk.

Jamaica is the first country to use these kiosks in the Americas, and representatives from Essential Hotel Collection say it is great news for tourists coming to Jamaica for a holiday. The kiosks can be used by people arriving from any destination and of any nationality, however passengers will need to have a suitable biometric passport, otherwise they will have to pass through the standard immigration checks.

Jamaica is a fantastic destination for a luxury holiday, and Essential Hotel Collection is welcoming the news that now it will be even easier for passengers arriving at the airport. Immigration can sometimes be stressful for visitors following a long flight, so authorities are to be commended for doing what they can to improve the experience for new arrivals.
