Orlando, FL - February 16, 2015 - Many of the world’s most delicious dishes contain meat from animals such as cows, pigs and chickens. Eating meat has many health benefits, but it is also associated with certain risks. Due to the health risks associated with the consumption of meat, an increasing number of people are turning vegan or vegetarian.

Now, according to research, more vegans and vegetarians are claiming they have healthier joints than meat eaters. They believe that eating meat and dairy products such as milk and eggs, can significantly trigger painful flare ups, especially for individuals who are already suffering from arthritis.

“Many arthritis patients are turning to vegan or vegetarian diets to avoid triggering inflammation and reduce their risk for symptoms,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

Dr. Duo Li, PhD and Zhejiang University professor of nutrition, believes that there are many benefits in going meat-free. Vegetarians and vegans tend to have lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure, as well as being less likely to gain excess weight. However, he also recommends that those who want to go meat-free should consult with their physician first.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are more than 21 million people in the United States who are suffering from pain, inflammation and limited mobility due to arthritis. Certain factors that increase the arthritis risk include aging, obesity, injuries and having a meat-rich diet.

“It is believed that meat consumption, especially when done excessively, can increase a person’s risk for obesity. Obese individuals carry more weight, especially in their joint areas, and this significantly increases their risk for developing arthritic conditions,” added O’Sullivan.

Aside from obesity-related arthritis, meat consumption is also believed to increase a person’s risk for gout flare up, which is a form of arthritis. Many individuals who were suffering from rheumatoid arthritis have experienced significant improvement in their condition after switching from a meat-rich diet to plant-based. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, fatty meats have high levels of saturated fat that increases inflammation.

Health professionals say eating anti-inflammatory food items is one of the best ways to fight arthritis. Some experts also believe that taking natural supplements, such as glucosamine, can be really helpful in achieving pain relief. There are even arthritis patients who believe that glucosamine supplements have allowed them to regain their joint health with less physical limitations (http://www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4/).
