Tanielle Lobo launches her collection reminiscent of Bombay and the 1960s in the west, featuring a womenswear range of A-line dresses and babydoll shifts with cut out yokes, kick-out mini skirts, round collar jackets, printed puff blouses and round hem coats in Indian-versed textures. Her Brand makes a statement with pieces resonating her aesthetic i.e. eclectic, fun, kitsch and colourful with ethnic flashes and traditional quirkiness. Bombay is a cheeky hybrid of Indian suburbia that smells more of the future than the past. It is exciting and dares to be different like when we were young and free in the sixties. It was a time of fun. From the streets of bohemian Bombay to the pychedelic dollybirds of the swinging sixties, her inspirations explore colour, symbols and imagery of Bombay madness incorporating fashion silhouettes and structure from the 1960s and creating a collection for the young and vibrant spirit. A mélange of the Indian roadside festivities and hawkers, go-go mods, cosmic geometery and kaleidoscopic graffiti stimulates her imagination mixing traditional Indian influences with contemporary design. The collection is riotous and exhuberant, much like the chaotic markets at home in Bombay, exploding with spinning pinwheels, fluorescent plastic, pings of bells, broken bangles, electric sequins, neon garlands, tinsel covered trucks, fairy floss, cows with painted horns, swirling swastikas, flashing light bulbs, bollywood dreams and gleaming gods. Colour has always been a key feature of her design and highlights the collection. Her prints explore graphic versions of technicolour kites, pinwheels and pompoms. The fabrics used are handwoven tweeds and silks from India. The Art Nouveau revival of the sixties stimulates her designs for accessories and shoes. The bags and clutches boast exqisite handcarved wooden handles of patterns combining art nouveau and Indian motifs. The shoes compliment the bags with similar handcarved heels in vivid colours.
