Tampa, FL; May 04, 2013: A family trip to the movies or drive in theaters are fading quickly as memories of those times date generations before. Inventions in technology and improvements are generally led by a necessity or convenience that makes life and our lifestyle, better and more palatable. The home theater systems and custom theater designs are transforming not only our movie going habits, but also our home construction and ways that we utilize our living space.

With Netflix, Youtube, and Redbox available for the home theater convenience, popcorn and soda are the only missing ingredients to the experience, and that is clearly an easy fix. But technological changes in this industry like most advances are becoming cheaper and more accessible for the masses as competition in this industry forces more abundance and less mystique about what it is.

Sound and Vision Design is a custom home installation company located in Tampa, Florida where they provide custom home theater systems and creative ideas for home owners and businesses alike in the field of audio, visual home theater and sound systems. Most recently, they shared with our staff some of the trends that have evolved and continue to make their industry incredibly interesting for the world to see.

In 1994, there are fond memories in Tokyo when a large group travelled there and experienced seeing flat screen televisions everywhere that were hanging on the wall like a painting. As astounding as that vision was, it was even more incredulous that back in the United States, there were still tube tv’s that proliferated the shelves of all of our technology retailers. Five years later when flat screens began to appear, the thought of Tokyo inventory never left our minds.

Today, flat screens are ubiquitous and have already been through evolutionary changes with plasma, LED, and efficiency of usage and capabilities. The use of HDMI cables which has already been in existence for a decade, is now seeing all other components in stereo, Blu Ray systems, and the like, obviating the multiple wire connections that use to create a labyrinth of connections and headaches.

“The more things change, the more they stay the same”, a proverb originated by French novelist Alphonse Karr, may be true on one level, but in home theater systems and designs that we see in our most recent lifetime, that might be challenged.
