Annual Charity Chain Walk Thanks Ramblers Worldwide Holidays For Support

A local charity fundraiser group has thanked Ramblers Worldwide Holidays after continuing support for their charity chain walk.

Mark Kenealy, a resident of Barclay Close, Hertfordshire, was admitted to Isabel Hospice in Welwyn Garden city last year, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. After a successful career as a criminal analyst for Hertfordshire police, Mark died on August 11, aged 51. A series of charity chain walks took place across East Herts last year, with 30 of Mark’s friends and relatives, including his wife Deb and three daughters, taking part. This year’s walk will again raise funds for the hospice that looked after Mark in the last days of his life, counting on the support from sponsors such as Ramblers Worldwide Holidays

You never really know about the hospice unless you unfortunately need to use it » said Mark’s Brother, Paul, « When we went there they were so good, and the nurses are very sensitive to the fact that the life expectancy isn’t very high» Isabel Hospice provided bereavement counselling to the Healey family, who were at the premises almost round the clock for two weeks before Mark passed away, so for the past two years the family and their friends have tried to give something back, with the help of donations and sponsors. This year, the 9 mile walk starts at Mill Green and finishes at the Five Horseshoes in Little Berkhamstead. Each walk is circular in distance and reaches from a five mile to a 20 mile trek, this is why it is known as the ‘Chain Walk Challenge’.

In a closing statement, Maria Alexander, organiser of the charity fundraiser said « There is no entry fee to take part in the Chain Walk, but we do ask walkers to either make a donation or raise sponsorship.
