Wedding Dress Designers Such As Tatiana Porembova Pioneer New Trends

Wedding gown stylists such as London’s Tatiana Porembova are contributing to a shift in the paradigm of what constitutes a wedding dress by taking bridal couture in bold new directions.

This trend has been in full effect on bridal catwalks this year and most of the major stylists’ collections for 2014 present unusual elements not habitually associated with traditional wedding gown design. Theia, on the other hand, kept the classic colour scheme but made trousers a part of her designs, in yet another unheard-of move for the bridal industry.

The most common sign of change in next year’s designer wedding dress collections, however, was the emergence of short, cocktail-style dresses. Numerous well-known stylists have decided to forgo the classic long dress in favour of more manageable everyday-length numbers. Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier and Marchesa have all adhered to this trend, with their designs for Autumn 2014 being virtually indistinguishable from a standard cocktail dress.

The difference, evidently, is in the levels of luxury present in each of these numbers. Despite the revolutionary new trends turning towards the practical in favour of the traditional-style length, these dresses are no less rich in detail or luxurious materials than any that these designers have come up with in previous years. Feathers, embroidery and jewels continue to feature heavily in most of these designs, minimizing the risk of a ‘casual’ look for the bride.

Designers such as Tatiana Porembova will no doubt be looking to follow in the footsteps of these innovators in upcoming months, and it is quite possible that society will witness a shift in wedding dress couture standards over the next couple of years.
