Visitors at Epicentre Gurgaon celebrated the Festival of Lights this year with Epicentre Diwali Mela ‘09, an event that brought cutting edge contemporary style from the best around India. The Epicentre Diwali Mela began on October 9, 2009 and continued till October 12. The four-day extravaganza took people through a world class shopping & gifting experience, true to the essence of the festival. Presented by American Express, some highlights of the festivities were music concerts, traditional street performances, Diya & Rangoli Workshops, Story-telling Session for kids and the luxury of an air-conditioned 40000 sq. foot special bazaar where one could shop for apparels, silverware, furnishing, diyas, jewellery, gift items and much more.

Guests explored Bobby Aggarwal’s Portside Café with its much acclaimed hand finished, vegetable dyed leather furniture and artifacts, leaf through the eye-catching paperworks of Manohar Devraj’s Xylem Papercraft, spotted their face in the sparkling silverware from Frazer & Haws, praised on the festive prêt wear of Amita Dev’s White Tara, lounged on the period furniture of the 1900’s from Norway, savoured organic food products by Himjoli and the not-to-miss the famous designers’ ensemble brought to you by the NGO, Naz.

Host of Cultural festivities added to the glamour at the Mela, starting with oh-so-magical Fusion Concert by Advaita on October 9. The malleable moves of street performers of Shadipur fascinated people. Followed by Anamika’s performance on folk dances of India and the electrical jazz musical evening presented by CuentaCuentos on the 10th. Simultaneously on the 10th, the highlight was Diya painting workshop by Vinnie Mathur and Art competition for children in the Exhibition Hall.

Sunday, the 11th was reserved for the Story Telling Session by Assitej India, magic show by the street performers of Shadipur and the evening allured in the new age music by Arunagshu. The final day of the event i.e 12th October was marked by the spellbinding Ram Lila act by the renowned group from Vrindavan.

Organised by Events Etc., the Food Court served a variety of delicacies like hot dogs, kathi rolls, sandwiches, biryani, chaat and more to add to the flavour of the mela with the visitors. More activities in the Mela included the works of designer-maker Piyush Suri’s Handmade In Britain, a UK-based organization, on display. The quality, originality and eco-conscious ethos behind his works inspired people with their distinctiveness. Designers Annabel Farady, Tina Vlassopulos, Kate Schuricht , Janet Stahelin, to name only a few, exhibited their unexampled collection as part of the selective compilation.

Playclan: fashion + art + design caught the eye with its inquisitive and playful designs. Pankaj Verma’s Namo offered exclusive décor accessories reflecting the deep-rooted Indian ethnicity coupled with its contemporary outlook.
