Artists Unite for Flamenco for Life
Gala Fundraiser benefits Orphans in Africa

Edmonton, AB- On July 25th at 6:30pm the Sutton Place Hotel Ballroom will play host to Flamenco for Life a fundraising gala in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. The fundraiser will help those women in Sub-Saharan Africa who, having lost their children to AIDS must now care for not only their grandchildren, but also the children of others in the communities who have passed away.

Hosted by Thomas Trofimuk author of the forthcoming book Waiting for Columbus, the event will feature a one night only performance by World-Renowned flamenco dancer Ramón Martínez and his flamenco company.

“You might wonder how Spain and Flamenco are connected to orphans in Africa, and the answer is that dance is about expression, and it’s about hope,” says Kyla Sentes artistic director of Paz Y Flamenco the group presenting the fundraiser.

“Ramón Martínez was last here touring with Paco Peña and is thrilled to be returning to Edmonton for such a special cause. As well as his special performance, he will be offering workshops to the dance community for those that want to benefit from his vast experience and expertise,” says Sentes.

Kyla founded Paz Y Flamenco Artist’s Collective in 2006 after spending time living in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She became interested in using artistic expression to inform and educate audiences about critical local, domestic, and global social justice issues.
