Nitro Funny Car’s Gary Densham recognized for the award at the 22nd annual Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals.

SONOMA, CA—July 29, 2009—Densham Motorsports’ team owner and driver Gary Densham is honored for his racing performance at the 22nd annual Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals held in Sonoma, California this past weekend. Earning the Quest for the Full Throttle Moment Award after defeating his former boss and teammate, John Force, in round one of final eliminations, Densham proves that his team can still contend with the best even on a limited budget.

The award, which is given to the top moments of the race weekend in each of the four competing car categories: Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle, is chosen by the event’s sanctioning body, the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

“I think that our win over John Force in round one was significant and memorable not only because we were once teammates, but that we can still go out and win over a top tier team even with a fraction of their resources and funding,” explains Densham.

“I know that when you line our teams up next to each other, it’s expected that a heavily sponsored and funded team would have the edge, but I showed that it’s not always the case. Being a successful race team really is about having the knowledge in formulating a top notch engine in any weather condition. My crew is exceptional, and more importantly, we treat each other like family and I think that is an ingredient that gives us an edge in our ability to work together effectively,” continues Densham.

With an upset win over 14-time champion John Force, Densham followed that performance with a win over reigning 2008 NHRA champion Cruz Pedregon in round two of final eliminations. Densham says, “It really doesn’t matter who we line up against out there, I know that my team has given me a great race car and all I have to do is drive it down the track.”
