Falling Euro Affects Last Minute Ski Deals

21, April 2015: The arrival of April usually heralds the beginning of the end of the European ski season and a decrease in snow levels, resulting in a quiet turn out on the slopes of the French Alps. However, an increase in snow falls and the decline of the Euro’s value saw demand for last minute ski deals skyrocket for the recent Easter period.

Travel specialists said holidaymaker were (and still are) clamouring to book and pay for trips before the Euro regains a higher value, with its current rate being 12 per cent lower than it was at this time last year.

The fall of the Euro has also further reduced prices for renting ski equipment, lift passes and catered services, following on from the holiday rates that had already dropped in December. Winter sports enthusiasts booking last minute ski deals are currently saving up to 22 per cent compared to last season’s prices.

The unusual increase in Easter snowfall timed itself perfectly to complement the falling value of the Euro. Many skiing enthusiasts couldn't believe their luck as they were able to book last minute ski deals for some of the best Easter skiing conditions in decades.

A spokesperson from successful skiing holiday company Ski Amis added, "Our Easter break deals sold out very quickly and we're thrilled that so many holidaymakers were able to go on a holiday that they thought they couldn’t afford, thanks to the decrease of the Euro. Hopefully we’ll have a new generation of skiing enthusiasts on our hands after the Easter holidays!”

Families, in particular, can look forward to continuing benefits from the drop in rates as travel industry research shows that skiing packages for families have seen some of the most marked differences in prices compared to last year – a welcome bonus for struggling families trying to afford an annual holiday to the snow.
